Moonrock Mountain is a 12’ square, 12’ tall low-poly sculpture of the Grand Teton. It consists of 28 “moonrocks” which are the geometric joints of the sculpture connected by 56 aluminum struts. The sculpture is held together structurally with 604, 1/2" steel bolts.

The facade is made up of two types of shards: light and color. The light shards are aluminum backed LED panels that are fully programmable and mapped to the geometry of the structure. These panels have over 10,000 LEDs and are controlled with custom software to develop the generative patterns.

The color shards are 1/4" flat glass with a dichroic coating. They are hand cut and shaped by Unauthorized and are mounted to the frame in a similar manner to the light shards. There are 43 color shards in total.

The sculpture is still in progress with its first showing being Love Burn 2022 in Miami, FL. We had about 20 light shards, and 15 color shards. Eventually once everything has been fabricated, the sculpture will be fully skinned and up on a deck. The LEDs will be covered by a diffused glass giving a consistent look to the facade.
